Marigold, mogra and a mixed-tradition wedding

20244 min read

A Maharashtrian-meets-South-Indian celebration, planned around two colour palettes and the sound of Loh Tarang.

Ishwari is Maharashtrian and Pradyumna is South Indian, and they wanted a grand traditional mixed-theme wedding. We love experimenting with intercaste weddings — there is real creative room — and for this one we went all out, chalking every detail.

We settled on yellow, orange, green and white as the palette. Marigolds, chrysanthemums, tuberose and mogra set the ambience. For music we arranged the Loh Tarang — a melodious percussion instrument — to sweep both guests and couple into a calmer, mellifluous atmosphere.

The entries made the day. The bride walked toward the mandap under a phoolon ki chadar, signifying the love she had grown up in. The groom highlighted his roots with a bullet entry — a typical South-Indian flourish. The reception followed in traditional red and gold, with a live instrumental band holding the mood together.
